Sacramento Bee Writer Caught With Voyeured Kiddie Porn
Someone noticed a man in his fifties videotaping cheerleaders in a suspicious manner on February 3rd at the University of California, Davis Acitivities and Recrational Center. The witness alerted a nearby campus police officer, and 52-year-old Gilbert Chan was cited for video voyerism.
When police seized and reviewed the camera Chan had concealed at the event, they noticed girls as young as six-years-old appeared on the tape. This led Yolo County prosecutors to obtain an arrest warrant for Chan on child pornography charges.
Chan, a business reporter for The Sacramento Bee, surrendered himself to police on February 27th and was released on $50,000 bond. Sacramento Bee Vice President Linda Brooks says Chan has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Chan was not on duty when he attended the UC Davis cheerleading event. The Sacramento Bee tried to reach Chan for comment, who routed all concerns to his lawyer. Chan’s lawyer could not be reached for comment by the paper. His last story with the Sacramento Bee appeared on Page D5 of the newspaper on February 26th and featured a Folsom-based company that matches startup entrepreneurs with investors via the Internet. If convicted, Chan faces up to three years in prison on a felony charge.

If it’s okay for the girls to perform, and okay for the public to watch the performance, then how does taping it become child pornography?
