Farewell & Thank You, Sacramento
I’ve known since about January that this post was coming, and I’ve have four months to prepare myself on the exact way I wanted to present it. I’m still at a loss for what I think the appropriate words are, so I’m going to do my best here.
I’ve been writing since 2003 on various blog sites, both for myself and for other people and services, and this is, by far, the best experience I’ve ever had in writing online. Nowhere else have I had such amazingly intelligent, clever and devoted readers. Your patronage really has meant the world to me, and I’m still not entirely sure how to show the amount of gratitude I have to all of you—most especially, those of you right here in Sacramento.
I’m very privileged that the information I put out here makes a difference to people. There’s no better pleasure than knowing you instigate debate, dialogue and thought. I doubt this is the last time I’ll blog online. I’m open to any offers that come my way.
Again, I’ve known for a while that this post has been coming. Earlier this year, I was offered a competitive position at a local Sacramento television station that I believes deserves my focus now. The position will start out as an internship and hopefully grow to be something more, though time will tell on that one. I look forward to this exceptional opportunity the station has given me to prove myself to them.
In the meantime, I intend to take this free time away from the blog by spending it with the people who matter the most to me—people who have been very supportive during my blogging career and understood the sacrifice in time and presence I needed in order to keep this running daily.
All of the articles will continue to work from this day forward, but no new content will be posted. The support of my sponsors, donors, advisors and tech gurus is much appreciated over the past two years of writing here—without them, I’m not sure this site could have run as smoothly as it did.
In closing, I’d like to instigate thought one last time. Please remember throughout life that things aren’t always as they seem. Never, ever be afraid to ask questions. Learn as much as you can. Make personal sacrifices that will propel you through life. Understand what it means to be an educated, caring community. Know that you don’t have to live up to an image.
And don’t believe everything the talking heads tell you. Most of the time, they’re just reading white text on a screen anyway.
See you around.
