Drunk TV General Manager Gets Arrested At Airport
The general manager for a news station in Boston is undergoing medical treatment after being arrested for disorderly conduct while drunk at Logan International Airport Sunday evening. Forty-year-old Randi Goldklank, who works for WHDH-TV Channel 7, has been placed on administrative leave at the request of station owner Sunbeam Television, who also operates Boston’s CW affiliate WLVI Channel 56.
Goldklank was also arrested for assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. According to a police report obtained by WBZ-TV, Goldklank “began flailing her arms and stated ‘leave me alone, do you know who the (expletive) I am? I’ll have a news crew down here in minutes and you will lose your (expletive) jobs you (expletive).”
Goldklank became verbally abusive when state troopers asked her to present identification. She refused and continued a verbal assault on the officers, saying, “I’m a bigshot in Boston and I’ll have your (expletive) jobs, you think you’re a (expletive) tough guy, you just watch and see what the (expletive) happens to you when I get the (expletive) out of here.” At one point, an officer attempted to retrieve Goldklank’s identification from her pocketbook, at which point Goldklank hit him in the cheat and broke his eyeglasses. Goldklank’s physical assault went on as three officers attempted to restrain her for an arrest.
A statement released by Sunbeam Television says Goldklank deeply regrets the incident and praises the general manager for her work with the company. “Randi Goldklank is an outstanding broadcast executive with a record of great success,” wrote Sunbeam Television’s President Ed Ansin. “She is currently undergoing medical treatment and is on administrative leave from the company. We wish her a speedy recovery, as do her many friends in Boston and throughout the broadcasting industry.”
Goldklank’s attorney refused to comment. Since 2001, Sunbeam Television has employed Goldklank in both Boston and Miami, where she has worked as a general manager and a sales executive. WHDH’s previous general manager, Mike Carson, will temporarily take over for Goldklank while she undergoes treatment. Her leave is subject to further review by station management.
