Madonna Likely To Remake Casablanca Film In War-Torn Iraq

Singer-entertainer Madonna, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has announced plans to refilm the legendary movie Casablanca.
According to a film executive, Madonna would like to remake the film in a war-torn country, “such as Iraq.” The unnamed Hollywood source, speaking to the British tabloid The Daily Mail, said Saturday that there is no script, but Madonna is poised to take the lead role of
“Madonna and her people are testing the waters to see if this is the right vehicle for her and if a major studio will get behind the project,” the anonymous source said in The Daily Mail.
In the original 1942 release, Ingrid Bergman starred opposite Humphrey Bogart as Ilsa Lund—a role that made her a star in Hollywood. Madonna is hoping to capitalize on Bergman’s success by taking the lead role in the remake of Casablanca for herself, a decision she hopes will overshadow her recent Hollywood flops like Shanghai Surprise and Body Of Evidence.
In 1996, Madonna found some ground to stand on after starring as Evita Peron in the Oscar-winning film adaptation of the ndrew Lloyd Webber stage production of Evita. The movie earned Madonna a surprise honor in the Guinness Book of World Records for “Most Costume Changes in a Film.”
However, that was more than ten years ago. Now a fifty-year-old Madonna wants to reprise a role originally played by a twenty-year-old Bergman. “She is still determined to make it in the movies,” said the anonymous source. Whether this remake of a classic post-WWII film, now likely set in Iraq if Madonna has her way, will catapult her into stardom remains to be seen—but entertainment critics are skeptic.
