Music Video Monday: The B-52s Are Back

March 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Music, Music Video Monday, Radio, Sacramento

The B-52s are back with Funplex, an album that shows that all four members of the popular new wave band have not aged a bit. Funplex, which is also the title of their first single from the album, has all of the trademarked styles of The B-52s: nonsensical spoken-and-sung lyrics and a great beat anyone can dance to. Watch closely in the music video above for a cameo appearance by drag queen RuPaul, who also cameoed in the video to the band’s infamous song Love Shack. Funplex can be purchased DRM-free from the iTunes Music Store.

The alternative band will be in Northern California this May, performing the opening night of the Dixon May Fair with an unnamed special guest. The B-52s take to the stage at 8PM on May 8th. Tickets are $39 for reserved floor seating and $32 for general admission seating in the bleachers. Or you can check out The B-52s as a musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno April 1st at 11:35PM Pacific Time on KCRA 3 Sacramento (KNTV 11 Bay Area).

Since their newest album release, the band has dropped the apostrophe (”The B-52’s”) from their name. However, as their Wikipedia article points out, both with and without the apostrophe are acceptable spellings.

Fred Schneider, the band’s male vocalist, currently hosts the “Party Out Of Bounds” radio program on Sirius Satellite Radio’s First Wave alternative channel. “Party Out Of Bounds” can be heard Friday evenings from 6PM to 9PM Pacific Time.
