Wednesday, Say Hello To My92.5
The same day Clear Channel announced that Paul Robins and Lori Sacco were getting the boot, the owners of KGBY in Sacramento also announced that long-time soft AC station Y92.5 would flip formats to bring Sacramento radio audiences a harder side of the alternative world.
Introducing: My92.5. As speculated, My92.5 will feature harder alternative styles from bands like Led Zeppelin (perfect in time for their comeback),
Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, and Santana. There will be no jocks or on-air talent; instead, the station will deliver a playlist driven by station listeners. My92.5 will become one of the first stations in Sacramento to utilize the Internet and the social networking atmosphere to create on-air music diversity.
My92.5’s target demographic will be males and females ages 30 to 49, with an emphasis on college graduates, homeowners and families, mirroring the target demographic for CBS Radio-owned KQJK Jack FM. My92.5 will not be affiliated with Sacramento television station My58. It will be interesting to see how Sacramento accepts a rejuvenated radio station after more than 20 years.
In my past life, I was a tree or something. If not a tree, something that grew old and didn't move very much. I'm pretty convinced of this.

New format sucks. Not only do I hate it, my husband and teenage son think it stinks as well. What a bunch of awful noise to wake up to in the morning. Heather Lee is no replacement for Paul Robbins and Lori Sacco. Sure will miss them.

I haven’t listened to them yet… Too much going on till the holidays are over, but it sounds like I won’t like it either.

I just don’t get it. The structure is new…but the music is the same stuff you can ALREADY get on a myriad of different local stations.
Why is this station necessary????

@Deborah: I foresaw this uncomfortable format change from long-time Y92 listeners. It will be interesting to see if they migrate over to CBS-owned Mix96 or if they will stick around with My925 for a little while longer.
@Monica: You can listen online at their new website, http://www.my925radio.com (or the old site, which for a little while will redirect to the new one). I’ve listened to it a little today…not bad, but not great. I’ll review it shortly.
@Davey P: The station is necessary as a Clear Channel equivalent to CBS-owned Jack FM…or so it appears. In short, the station really isn’t necessary, which is why it’s “experimental.”

@Mike: I got your e-mail and your comment. I don’t work for KGBY, so your best bet is to e-mail the station directly at their new website, http://www.my925radio.com — thanks for the comment though!

As for the new “format”…It definitely shows that Clear Channel doesn’t know JACK.
The “announcer” is depressing, the tags are boring, and most of all, the site has to be one of the worst sites ever. If I was going to make an “experimental” format, I would at least try to make it successful. BTW, “Hidden” feedback link.. .click on the “BETA” in the upper left corner of the page where you can enter your picks and you can email your feedback. Oh, yeah,.. CC, just adding “BETA” to the site doesn’t make up for the lame site.

@R Moose: I hope you sent your comment to Clear Channel as well, because leaving it here won’t do you much good. Thanks for the feedback though! It seems like a lot of people are upset, and maybe Clear Channel will either revert or move closer to the old format, or bring in talent.

I prefer the new music over what was played in the past. I have been a “long-time listener”, mainly because of Paul, and I would mainly listen in the mornings. I wish the station would continue with Paul, and adopt the new style of music.

BRING BACK Paul and Lori…the new format stinks! Why change something that so many enjoyed???
Go figure…I’m over to the Mix-96!
